The retiree, who was exiting a side street in his Mazda 3, suffered fatal head injuries and died in hospital two days later.
Patel, nicknamed “the man with the golden smile” had done up to 59 mph in a 40 mph zone and could not stop in time.
The Bolton, Greater Manchester dentist, who runs a medical practice in Stockport, has denied any wrongdoing.
He blamed Mr Eyre for causing the crash in Royton in February 2019, saying he may have suffered a “medical episode” while driving.
Patel was convicted at an earlier hearing of causing death by reckless driving.
Yesterday he was given a suspended prison sentence at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester.
He had to do 280 hours of unpaid work and was granted a three-year driving ban.
Mr. Eyre’s widow Joyce said: âThe grief is global. It is not improving.
