As As part of its social investment efforts to promote quality and affordable services in the health sector, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (FMN) recently renovated the dental clinics of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos.
The company, in a recent statement, said it had started the first phase of renovating four dental units with N35 million in 2018.
“The second phase was the completion of an additional four dental unit bay in 2019. Plans to start the third phase are underway. The initiative, which is also a pillar of corporate social responsibility, aligns with the United Nations Social Development Goals (SDGs) for good health and well-being.
“The clinic has nearly 100 dental resident doctors providing subsidized care to the public, especially low-income people, and remains one of the best centers for comprehensive dental care and management in Lagos,” the company said.
During the unveiling and handing over of the first two dental arrays, the company’s secretary and director of legal services, Joseph Umolu, said: “Our decision to renovate the dental clinic is primarily driven by the desire to give back to our communities. . As a socially responsible company, we are particularly concerned about the health and well-being of Nigerians. We understand that poor dental health can have a profoundly negative effect not only on our ability to eat, but also on sensitive areas outside of the mouth, including the heart, and other chronic inflammation issues.
“With the improved facilities, the clinic will now be better equipped as a training center for students and will continue to offer subsidized dental care for its immediate surroundings as well as a referral center for the management of all kinds of dental diseases in the state, mainly, and Nigeria in general.
In addition, the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Lagos, Prof. Oluranti da Costa, said: “On behalf of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, we express our utmost gratitude to Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc. This project has brought about a remarkable change in our clinic and we are very excited to serve our patients better. The new dental units and improved surgical services will also make for a more conducive environment for us to work and for patients to receive special care. We have also recently been re-accredited, having received this support from Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, and look forward to continuing our collaboration with Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc.
