A development of significance to all of Marion counties is taking place this week at the courthouse. A two-way citizen band radio is being installed at the sheriff’s office for emergency purposes, connecting it to more than 200 private stations owned by citizens and businesses in the county.
Another nice commercial improvement for Marion will be under construction this week. This will be Dr. EK Schroeder’s new dental office and will be located at 921 E. Main between Cedar and Roosevelt streets.
The Marion County Fair Board completed and delivered the petition asking the county to provide funds to move the fair from its current location in downtown Hillsboro to the southern outskirts of the city on land donated by the city. if Hillsboro.
The cast has been chosen for the senior play, “The People vs. Maxine Lowe,” which premieres November 18. The characters will be played by Linda Loney, Patty Plenert, Norman Mueller, Pat Costello, John Sandwell, Jackie Thomas, David Longhofer, Chuck Bredemeier, Cathy Palmer, Kathy Westerhaus, Roxanne Zerger, Marian Lawrence, Helen Jackson, Becky Herrick, Carol Bowers, Dennis Highsmith, Mike Wood and Ken Schmidt.
Warrant Officer Richard Craig of Marion, currently a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam, was recently awarded the air medal. He has been on combat missions for the past six months. Of the 16 helicopters in his unit, Richard’s was the only one that was not hit. And he says he’ll be happy to “keep it like this”.
The “Punt, Pass, and Kick” competition took place on Saturday evening in front of 200 spectators. The winners were: eight-year-old category, Tim Zerger; category nine, Jay Schwendiman; ten, John Higgins; 11, Chris Costello; and 12, Jack Loomis. Bill Ford was the only participant in the 13-year-old category and took first place.
