James Russell Hamblen, 78 – Standard South
n Charleston, SC, and died of prolonged illness Oct. 14 at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville.
Son of the late Captain EA and Ruth Hamblen, Dr. Hamblen graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1966 and then served his country in the United States Navy. In 1969 he chose to relocate to McMinnville and opened his dental practice on October 1. He was a life member of the American Dental Association and the Tennessee Dental Association, where he was the past president of the 4th District Dental Society. . He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he had served the church in various capacities. A founding member and past president of the McMinnville Breakfast Rotary Club, he was also Paul Harris Fellow. He has shown his love of the community through his acts of service and his dedication to his profession.
In addition to his wife Carol Lee Hamblen, Dr. Hamblen is survived by children Michele (Chris) Brandjes of Knoxville, Douglas (Kimberly) Hamblen of Leesburg, GA, Jason (Genevieve) Hamblen of Eads, TN, Leann (Dustin ) Long of Vestavia Hills, AL, Megan (John) Taylor of McMinnville, and 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bruce (Mary Ann) Hamblen of Jackson, his sister Eunice Hamblen of Lighthouse Point, Florida, and his aunt Jane Proffitt of Nashville, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
Visitations will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the High Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the High Chapel with Summer Worley as officiant. Interment will take place at the Friendship Campaign Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The United Methodist Church of Christ’s FUEL Fund, The Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus Campaign, or any charity of your choice.
